This is Ben Solo as raised by Han & Chewie, with assistance and input from a handful of other scoundrel types (Uncle Lando, anyone?)

Ben was six when he was sent away to Luke's academy to train, and he was twelve when Han came to rescue him from it. Han had been against sending him in the first place, not that he didn't need the training, but that he was too young. The argument over whether to send him or not was what first drove a wedge between Han and Leia, and Han's decision to take Ben away again was what finally drove them apart.

Ben doesn't have a lightsaber of his own, he never built one and only occasionally thinks that he should. He does, however, know how to build one, and how to use one, he has about two years of training with wooden practice sabers under Luke and has done some training with a Corellian ceremonial sabre since then.

Aside from what he learned from Luke, he has learned most of what he knows about the Force from Maz Kanata, she taught him how to shield his mind and how to make himself all but invisible to other Force-sensitives.

He never fell under the Snoke's sway, though it was a close thing, and if Han hadn't come to take him away, he probably would have. The Sith Lord did manage to get at least one hook in Ben's mind, and does still try to win him over, or force him over to the Dark. Generally this only happens when Ben's mental shields are down, due to deep sleep, or weakness from injury or illness.

Sometimes Snoke even pries at those shields, which results in blinding migraines and a temporary loss of control of his powers.

When he was younger, Han kept them moving, hoping that would keep Snoke from finding him, and it worked, for a while, at least Ben believes that it did, as they never had any run-ins with the Knights of Ren and didn't have any more than the usual level of First Order entanglements.

He does still travel with Han, and with Chewie, though he has his own shuttle and does take jobs of his own as often as not. He's still estranged from his mother, when he was younger he believed that she sent him away because he was broken and she didn't want him anymore. Now that he's an adult he understands that it was more complicated than that, but he still hasn't sorted out his own feelings towards her. Han asks, every few years, if he'd like to see her -as Han and Leia's relationship is no longer as strained as it once was- but he has so far declined.

A PSA (Because apparently I need to be more clear about this) I DO NOT REYLO. I'm not saying don't tag if you're a Rey, but if you don't know whether or not you can keep it PLATONIC, please don't, because we'll only both be disappointed.
